Demand for solar silicon continues to rise! Extremely pure and structurally perfect silicon is becoming more and more important for the photovoltaic industry. Silicon crystals are produced by melting extremely pure silicon material. This process requires a highly sophisticated crystal growing furnace using the Czochralski, or CZ, method. In the CZ method, the pure Si is melted, a seed crystal is dipped into the molten material and then made to grow by being slowly raised out of the molten silicon. Therefore, the crystal growing furnace is often called a "crystal puller.”
